Sustainable Success Nudge from Your Future Self: 💬 “You can lead and still be in your own transformation.”
This week: Notice where you’re both giving the ride and taking the ride.
Where you’re showing up to serve, guide, teach, or lead—and also learning something yourself in the process. The magic is in doing both consciously.
Hi Melinda,
There’s a phrase I say to my team whenever we’re in the middle of a big launch or live event: “Give the ride and take the ride.”
It’s become a bit of a mantra for us—a business philosophy.
When we’re hosting an event—say, a three-day intensive—my team is giving the ride. They’re creating an experience for our participants: holding space, managing details, ensuring that every client, grad, or guest feels cared for and guided. They’re the reason the container works.
But at the same time, my team is taking the ride too. They’re human. They’re listening. They’re learning. They’re being moved by the same teachings, questions, and insights that are landing for our participants.
And I want that for them. Because when they let themselves take the ride, they grow into even better coaches, leaders, and team members. They see things in new ways. They bring more heart and perspective to their work. And our clients benefit deeply because of it.
The key, though, is doing both consciously.
When a team member has a big aha moment—or even gets triggered—it’s important that they know where and how to process it. Not in a way that takes away from the ride they’re giving, but in a way that honors both. Sometimes that means stepping aside for a breath or asking another team member to hold space.
It’s the same for us as entrepreneurs and leaders. We’re always giving the ride—creating experiences for our clients, teams, and communities.
But we’re also taking the ride. We’re growing. We’re being stretched. We’re learning through the very work we’re leading.
That’s where the Create Without Burnout Cycle and the 4 Levels of Consciousness come in for me.
Those two frameworks help me stay centered—so that even when I’m taking the ride, I don’t lose myself inside it. They help me stay resourced, conscious, and intentional while I serve, lead, and create.
Because when we give the ride and take the ride consciously, leadership becomes a living practice—not a performance.
👉 I’d love to hear from you: Can you think of a time when you realized you were in both roles at once—guiding others while being transformed yourself? Hit reply and tell me about it.
Honoring your ride, Melinda
